– Parliament is set to mark a significant occasion in the nation’s democratic journey with the opening of the Ninth Session of the Seventh Parliament this afternoon at 14:30. In this year’s ceremony, the National Assembly will also pay tribute to the remarkable life and legacy of the Late Dr. Hage G. Geingob, whose passing has left a void in the heart of the Namibian nation. The Office of the Speaker in a media statement said that to honour his memory with the respect it rightfully commands, certain adjustments to the traditional ceremonial formalities have been made with the military procession, the 21-gun salute, and cultural performances that usually accompany the opening ceremony will be respectfully omitted. The National Assembly will continue its session tomorrow with proceedings dedicated to allow Members of the National Assembly to express their condolences and pay tribute to the bereaved family and the nation, celebrating the life and legacy of Dr. Geingob.
