4th Artillery Brigade celebrate women’s day

General Officer Commanding the 4th Artillery Brigade, General Alweendo Namukwambi, has called on Namibians to work together to create a safe space for women.

General Namukwambi was speaking at the celebration of International Women’s Day at the Jonas Shoongeleni Ndeimana Barracks outside Otjiwarongo.

As Namibia joined the rest of the world to celebrate International Women’s Day, General Namukwambi says countless women are occupying leadership positions, including in the fields of science, the arts, and technology.

Women also, however, face endless challenges, such as gender-based violence and abuse.

“The fight for gender equality continues, and we still have a long way to go in addressing such gender-specific challenges. Newspapers and news headlines reveal the current trend of unspeakable cruelty towards women. We therefore embrace policies aimed at addressing such challenges.”

He says there is a need to create a safer world for women to reach their potential in a society where they feel respected and free from discrimination.

Dressed in their different cultural attire, women in the Army at the Jonas Shoongeleni Ndeimana Barracks shared what it means to be a woman.

The 4th Artillery Brigade women say they will open up a women’s club to advise and encourage one another to contribute to society.

International Women’s Day is celebrated each year on the eighth of March. This year’s theme is “Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.
