The Namibian Revenue Agency (Namra) has announced that it will release a mass tax refund of roughly N$66,8 million on Friday to benefit 63 150 individual salaried persons and pensioners.
According to Namra, the refund spans from 1991 to 2023, with the lowest refund amount being N$100 while the highest is N$101 959.
“It must be pointed out that taxpayers whose employers have not remitted the withheld Pay As You Earn (PAYE) or entered into a payment arrangement honoured for at least six months, will not be included in this phase of refunds,” Namra spokesperson Steven Ndorokaze said.
Ndorokaze said the agency has determined risk parameters and calculated the threshold per taxpayer, resulting in 91 092 returns being processed.
“The agency has implemented a series of innovative measures to expedite the refund process, which entails thorough scrutiny, risk assessment, general acceptable risk threshold and an automated refund process,” Ndorokaze said.
Meanwhile, of those eligible for a refund, 8 137 taxpayers have incomplete bank account details on their profiles, resulting in the inability to process their refunds.
“Namra urges all taxpayers, especially those with pending refunds to urgently provide their banking details and verify the accuracy of the provided information,” Ndorokaze said.
