70-year-old farm owner attacked in robbery

“A 70-year-old man identified as Udo Gaetner sustained injuries to the head after a group of five men pretending to be police officers robbed his farm.”

According to Namibian police media liaison officer, Inspector Raimbert Muronga, the armed robbery happened in the Grootfontein area and occurred on 30 July 2023 at about 20:00 at farm Fiume, 30km from Grootfontein near Rundu road, Otjozondjupa region.

Inspector Muronga said that it is alleged that the five unknown male suspects entered the farm of Gaetner pretending to be police officers, alleging to be investigating a murder case.

He added that one of the suspects was dressed in special field force uniform and a reflector, while four were dressed in civilian clothes, all with reflectors, and that they were all armed.

Muronga said that the suspects entered the house and demanded the victim to open the safe, which he did.

“They attacked the victim and hit him with the back of the firearm on the head and took his four firearms and three rifles, including the two cellphones. The victim was with his wife, but she was not hurt or assaulted,” Muronga said.

The Inspector added that the victim is in a stable condition, and that the suspects are unknown, and no arrests have been made yet.

He concluded that upon receiving the information, CID, Operations, Neighborhood Watch, reservists, Traffic, and Maroelaboom members went to attend the scene until the morning hours.
