The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) says no political party campaigns will be allowed near polling stations.

Otjozondjupa Regional Electoral Officer Victoria Amutenya therefore called on all voters not to wear party colours when going to cast their votes.

Section 178 of the Electoral Act does not allow political party campaigns near polling stations, stipulating that such activities be held at least 500 meters away from polling stations.

“Coming to a polling venue wearing your party colours is like you are campaigning. You are already showing people that you are going to vote for which party, either A or B, which means your vote is no longer a secret.”

Polling venues have law enforcement officers to make sure that the law is adhered to, and those wearing party regalia will not be allowed to enter polling stations.

For those who lost their voter cards, the commission will be issuing duplicates from November 18 to 26.

The duplicates can be applied for in all constituencies.

In Otavi, the duplication will be done at the local authority councillor’s office and not at the constituency office.

For a duplicate to be issued, one will need a police declaration with identification documents such as the ID itself or birth certificate.
