Street vendors in Rundu work through Christmas Day

Home Uncategorized Street vendors in Rundu work through Christmas Day

While others are celebrating Christmas Day with family and friends, for some street vendors at Rundu, it’s business as usual.

This is because, after all the celebrations and entertainment, the struggles for a new academic year begin.

Parents often face challenges at the start of the new academic year.

Apart from struggling to find space, buying school uniforms and stationery is a mammoth task.

Some vendors at Rundu, attended the church service the previous night to mark the birth of Jesus, but come sunrise, they take up their spots of trade on the street.

This is because they know too well the struggles that are associated with January.

They say every day and cent counts, as most of the products they sell are perishable.

While some of the spots where vendors trade from are empty, others shared that despite it being a holiday, business is going well so far, while others shared that it is not business as usual.

Compared to a few days back, the town was busy; shops were packed, and long queues could be observed at different shops.

At the time of our visit, the Rundu beach was also not busy.
