Mariental, a town in the Hardap region, commemorated World Population Day and launched the State of the World Population Report in Namibia.
The report, titled “8 Billion Lives, Infinite Possibilities: The Case for Rights and Choice,” was presented by Gift Malunga, a representative of the United Nations Population Fund, and Reverend Solomon April, the honored governor of the Hardap district.
The National Planning Commission, the Ministry of Gender Equality, Poverty Eradication and Social Welfare, the Hardap Regional Council, and the United Nations Population Fund collaborated to host the event which started at 7:00 a.m. The neighborhood’s residents eagerly gathered and marched to the informal settlement’s Aimablaagte community hall.
During his keynote address, Salomon April emphasized, “we need to work together to stop gender inequality and stop gender-based violence against women.”
The program ended with open dialogue discussions on how to empower women with youth entrepreneur Maria Boois, gender activist Donna Gamatham, youth activist Simon Paulus and Celeste Lucas teacher by profession and a community member.
The event ended with a celebration and music. – Namibia Daily News
