The Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform, in collaboration with the Meat Board of Namibia, launched a country-wide awareness campaign on the Livestock Identification and Traceability System (NamLITS) and stock brands at Katima Mulilo.

The campaign runs until the end of October.

The campaign aims to raise awareness, educate farmers on the appropriate use of cattle eartags and stock brands, and provide guidance on how to register on NamLITS online.

The awareness will assist farmers in updating stock brands, ear tags, and livestock-related information on NamLITS at dedicated stations in the region.

Speaking at the launch of the campaign, Zambezi Governor Alufea Sampofu stressed the importance of the traceability awareness system.

“It is also important to make sure that we have enough ear tags so that our cattle can be traced wherever they are in order to make sure that even thieves can see that we have ear tags that can be traced and our cattle can be identified.”

Dr. Kennedy Shoombe is the Deputy Chief Veterinarian in the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Land Reform in the Northern Communal Areas (NCAs).

“The system that assists us to access markets across the globe is looking at the issue of a stock brand, the NamLITS, the ear tags, and bringing awareness to our farmers so that they are at par with the new developments of what they have to do so that they can market their animals, and beef will then be marketed across the globe.”

Dr.Shoombe is encouraging all farmers to register at different designated points to update the issue of the stock brand NamLITS.
