Trial for Zimbabwean trio accused of murdering 9-year-old moved to 2024

THE trial involving three Zimbabwean nationals accused of the 2020 murder of Akundaishe Natalie Chipomho will not resume until January of next year.

This delay is to allow the state enough time to process its application to have a joint trial for the other suspects involved, Rachel Kureva, who is the biological mother of the deceased.

Initially, the suspects believed to be responsible for the crime were Chipombo’s biological father, Edward Nkata, and the victim’s stepmother, Caroline Nkata. They allegedly killed Chipomho in January 2020, placed her body in a garbage bin in Windhoek West, and set it on fire.

The decision to include Rachel Kureva in the Nkata case trial was prompted by a statement provided by the 14-year-old son of Edward and Caroline Nkata. In his statement, he implicated Kureva in his sister’s death.

The accused individuals are set to appear in court again on August 29th, where the court session will address the state’s application to join Rachel Kureva in the case. This move aims to involve the deceased’s biological mother in the ongoing trial.
