Make-up artist sets up beauty expo

Hannah Nangula, a professional make-up artist with more than 13 years’ experience, has organised Beauty Expo Namibia to help entrepreneurs interested in starting a career in this industry.

Nangula says she recognises many hopefuls find it challenging to succeed in the industry.

She has been hosting numerous training sessions for students and aspiring make-up artists nationwide.

Nangula says the beauty industry is growing rapidly, and she believes there is a lot of unappreciated talent out there.

“So many people in the industry are not celebrated,” she says.

She says hosting the expo is another way to celebrate the expansion of the industry and to inform those working in it that there is more to it than just being an artist.

Nangula says receiving business coaching will encourage those in the field to treat their enterprises seriously.

The inaugural Beauty Expo Namibia, themed ‘Passion, Innovation and Empowerment’, is scheduled to run from 30 October to 4 November at Ongwediva.

Nangula says the idea is to unite those who are passionate about the beauty industry to promote their craft, while also providing a platform for the marketing of novel goods and services.

She says the expo’s primary goal is to be a business-focused event in the fields of hair care, face and body care, fitness and wellness, and cosmetology.

“Our top priority is to draw a sizable number of business people to display their goods and services to the entire nation,” Nangula says.

To help combat unemployment, she wants to encourage young people to pursue careers in cosmetology.

The expo will feature live music performances, as well as displays of beauty products and services, business counselling, seminars and numerous competitions.

In addition to inviting international exhibitors, Nangula says: “We have published an open invitation targeting brand owners, make-up artists, retailers, and gyms to come on board.”

She says she also wants to give exhibitors the chance to network with prospective distributors and new customers.

“We hope to have about 100 different businesses join us during the exhibition.”
