NAMIBIAN Police Chief Joseph Shikongo has appointed Ottile Kashuupulwa as the new Regional Commander of Ohangwena, replacing Elizabeth Sibolile who retired at the end of July.
Kashuupulwa has also been promoted to the rank of commissioner after serving as the head of operations in Oshana Region for years.
She becomes the fourth woman regional commander in the country and has been in the force for 32 years.
“The fight against crime is definitely a challenging undertaking which cannot be left to the police alone. Therefore, our approach will be that of a community-oriented policing as the police is the community and the community is the police. We have to work together as a team,” said Kashuupulwa while accepting her new role.
Kashuupulwa added that the approach is in line with the Namibian Police strategic plan, and it falls under pillar number two which speaks on building partnerships. Therefore, they will aggressively pursue to enhance stakeholders’ cooperation.
“We will then form up a team to start with our community engagement activities in order to have a clear understanding of which problems or challenges are faced by which particular area within the community,” she said.
Kashuupulwa indicated that in order to succeed, they will need their business community to come on board.
Further, she urged the members in uniform to always work hand in hand with the members of the community, at the same time providing them with the desirable leadership to make Ohangwena crime-free.
