A 28-year-old woman, was on Friday arrested for attempted murder after attacking her 63-year-old mother with a machete at Ongundi village in Omungwelume constituency in Ohangwena Region.
According to the Namibian Police’s spokesperson, Deputy Commissioner Kauna Shikwambi, the woman chopped her mother with the panga on the hands, chest and lips and sustained open cut wounds.
The victim was taken to Oshakati State Hospital for treatment and the investigation into the attack will continue.
In a separate incident on the same day, at around 21:00 at Eenhana, it is reported that Matias Mwatongasheni Mwetufa, a 33-year-old man, lost his life after being struck on the head with an empty bottle by a 21-year-old female suspect.
It is alleged that the suspect was assaulting a young man and when the deceased pleaded with her to stop, she turned on him by retrieving a bottle from the shebeen, threw it, and struck the deceased on the head.
The deceased next of kin were notified and police investigations into the matter continue.
The police also reported that a robbery suspect was arrested on Friday at Oshakati State Hospital when he went to seek medical attention after he was shot during a robbery.
It is alleged that three unknown men attacked the victim while sitting in his vehicle and one suspect pointed a gun at the victim demanding money.
However, the victim managed to grab the hand of the suspect that was carrying the gun and while struggling for the pistol, both the victim and the suspect were shot.
The victim managed to run away while the suspect and his accomplices also drove off in a different direction.
An hour later, the suspect went to Oshakati State Hospital with multiple wounds on his body and bleeding, he was then arrested and admitted to the Intensive Care Unit while the victim was only treated and not admitted.
The victim was robbed of items to the value of N$ 4,000. No recovery of the stolen goods was made while the Police investigation continues.
