A security guard has handed himself over to the police after allegedly shooting and killing Johannes Iipinge (27) at Club Ace at Ongwediva on Sunday.
According to Oshana police spokesperson inspector Thomas Aiyambo, the incident took place at around 04h40.
It is alleged that Iipinge, a resident of Onawa village at Ongwediva, was disturbing customers and tried to steal items from them inside the club.
Aiyambo says a case of murder has been opened, however, no arrest has been made.
“Iipinge was later taken out of the club by employees and the security guard. Thereafter he attacked the security guard outside the club with an okapi knife,” he says.
Aiyambo says the security guard then fired a warning shot onto the ground, but Iipinge proceeded walking towards him holding the knife.
“The security guard then shot him in the stomach, and he kneeled down on the ground. The security guard went to the Ongwediva Police Station to report himself,” he says.
Iipinge was taken to the Oshakati Intermediate Hospital, where he was declared dead.
His next of kin have been informed of the incident.
“The docket will be sent to court for the prosecutor general’s decision,” Aiyambo says.
Police investigations into the matter continue.
