Crime investigations coordinator deputy commissioner Malakia Simaho has said the abuse of alcohol is a devil and a problem in the region.
Simaho has urged people to refrain from abusing alcohol, a prevalent factor behind most criminal activities reported in the region.
An example is an incident that occurred on Thursday night in which Albertus Albertus (21) allegedly took his own life after visiting cuca shops.
The incident occurred at Omikwayangadhwii village.
Albertus’ remains were discovered on Friday morning.
An incident of assault was also reported at Etunhu location when a man allegedly beat his girlfriend and threatened to kill her.
“In these incidents and many others, alcohol was involved. People spend their days consuming liquor, sometimes they are not even caring for their safety, the women walk home from drinking late at night and alone and in the process they are raped. We really need to address the abuse of alcohol as a serious concern as it is contributing to social ills and deaths and crimes,” urged Simaho.
