Ileka appointed as Chief of City Police

THE City of Windhoek (CoW) has announced the appointment of Leevi Shivolo Ileka as the new Head and Chief of City Police, effective from 11 September 2023.

Ileka, who previously served as the Deputy Chief of City Police since 2020, has taken over from the former chief and founder of the Windhoek City Police, Abraham Kanime, who retired earlier this year.

According to CoW, Chief Ileka brings a wealth of experience in management and leadership within the public services and security sectors, where he holds a Master of Science in Defence and Strategic Studies from the University of Madras in India, as well as a Post Graduate Certificate [Senior Staff and Command Course] from the Defence Services Staff College in India.

“Further, he has a master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy from the United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) in collaboration with the Open University of Catalonia, Spain. He also possesses a Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources Management and a National Diploma in Human Resources Management from the University of Science and Technology (NUST)” CoW remarked.

Ileka has, according to the City of Windhoek, also completed several training and courses, such as the Basic Police Standardization Course, training for Foreign Affairs Officials from sister cities in Africa, Protocol and Diplomatic Training, Advanced Military Counterintelligence Course, Combat Officer Qualifying Course, Law of Armed Conflicts Course, Military Training for Officers, Naval Cadet Course, and Basic Military Training.

Ileka possesses extensive experience in the security sector, with a background that encompasses both public and private sectors. Additionally, Ileka has demonstrated exceptional leadership skills in various industries, including service in the Namibia Defence Force (Navy).
