Windhoek’s Mayor, Joseph Uapingene, is addressing the city’s growing debt issue and urging residents to familiarise themselves with amendments to the Local Authorities Act. This, according to the Namibia Press Agency, comes in response to a petition from the Katutura Residents Committee calling for the removal of the Redforce debt collection company. The mayor explained that the city is bound by legal mandates and cannot arbitrarily freeze interest on arrears. However, for pensioners, they have reduced the required down payment from 33% to 15%.
