Media personality Adriano Visagie recently spoke to The Namibian about his nomination for best male brand influencer at the Africa Choice Awards in Lagos, Nigeria.
He says the nomination is a first for him.
The annual event aims to celebrate creatives within Africa in the entertainment, fashion and creative arena.
Reality TV star Luis Munana has been nominated in the same category.
Other nominations in this category went to Aproko Doctor, Denola Grey, Sheggz and Elozonam from Nigeria, Gemaen Taylor, Zamani Mbatha, Kyle Clark from South Africa, and Harold Amenyah from Ghana.
Visagie has been acting in theatre and film productions in Namibia for more than 10 years.
He is best known for his debut role in the prison film ‘Salute!”, which earned him a nomination at the Africa Magic Viewer’s Choice Awards in Lagos, Nigeria, and the title of best actor in southern Africa in Burkina Faso at the Sotigui Awards in 2019.
In 2020, Visagie was dubbed best overall actor in Canada, and awarded the Kim Renders Award for outstanding performance in his latest film ‘Kapana’.
He says the latest nomination showcases his growth.
“I’m learning to embrace the new space being called an influencer, although I define myself as a hybrid creative.
“Harnessing one’s brand isn’t the easiest, however, I believe once there is a clear focus, it allows brand recognition and people wanting to work with you, and brand reputation is very important for me,” he says.
Visagie says he is honoured to be nominated among some of the most leading influencers on the continent and those he admires.
“My newest nomination is different, mainly because of the different space I’m navigating – utilising social media as a means of income and just being appreciative of the brands I have worked with.
“I’m currently doing a lot of charity through the Adriano Visagie Foundation, whic aims to empower and uplift our community,” he says.
