Namibian vocal star Sean K is presently ablaze on the international stage as the soulful young singer enters the race for ‘X Factor’ Malta.
‘The X Factor’ is a popular televised music competition created by celebrity music producer Simon Cowell and the Maltese version of the show recently began its fourth season with Namibia’s very own Sean K as one of its brightest talents.
Sean K moved to Malta in 2021 after a brief stint in the United Kingdom. In Malta, the singer who has graced some of Namibia’s most illustrious stages, has rapidly made a name for himself as a captivating soul singer and a crowd-rousing live performer.
“I’m blessed to have been able to perform and perform and perform some more. This is an island that loves music and I believe I brought something new, something different to it. I have gotten so much support from locals and been booked for various gigs, weddings, etc,” says Sean K, who credits this wealth of gigs as essential to refining his craft, elevating his stage presence, growing his confidence and allowing for vocal experimentation.
“When I say the Maltese and Gozitans including the various expats that live here have really been behind me from day one, I mean I have supporters that come to each and every show and still look at me on stage like they are hearing me for the first time. This has really allowed me to grow in myself and my expression. I love to engage the audience, they are very willing participants and that brings me such joy,” Sean K says.
“I have also been lucky enough to meet really amazing musicians that I’ve been able to work with and I really look forward to my future here and beyond the Mediterranean,” says Sean K.
Sean K’s live performances on Malta have been so well received that they caught the eye of one of the biggest global music brands.
“I knew X-Factor was coming up and I thought: You know what? Let me try it out. But way before the auditions actually came up I was contacted by one of the producers of the show asking me to audition,” says Sean K.
“We think you should really consider applying for this year’s X-Factor” were some of their words.”
True to his roots which began with his covers of John Legend, Sean K auditioned for X-Factor with Legend’s smash hit ‘Ordinary People’.
“I have always said, if ever I enter a singing competition, I will be singing this song. I have loved it since my parents got me that album when it came out,” says Sean K from the bustling European island where X Factor Malta’s first season four shows are rapidly making him a household name.
“I am over the moon but, to be honest, I don’t think I have completely processed it yet,” says Sean K of the massive international career boost.
“I am just so happy. Being on X-Factor will allow me to be put in front of even more people. My dream has always been to perform on each and every stage and have people hear me. This will put me on not only a European platform but a global one. I pray that the right ears will hear me.”
Asked about his hopes for his X-Factor journey, Sean K is ambitious and hopeful.
“Who doesn’t want to win? I would love to win but, even if I don’t, I will use this opportunity as a platform to catapult my career to a different level. I would love to be able to work with more amazing producers and create more music while singing. I just want to sing and be happy.”
While Sean K is unsure as to whether Namibians will actually be able to vote for him on the Maltese show, the singer would appreciate local support through his social media and by simply rooting for his success.
“Your support even just through my socials means so much to me,” says Sean K. “I love you, Namibia. From Namibia to the world.”
