THE 10th International Festival of Freedom of Expression and the Press, held in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, awarded Namibia with the prestigious “Champion of Press Freedom in Africa Award.”
This recognition underscores Namibia’s commitment to safeguarding and promoting the fundamental principles of media freedom and the nation’s tireless efforts to create an environment where journalists can work freely and independently, reporting on critical issues without fear or censorship.
“The Champion of Press Freedom in Africa Award highlights Namibia’s dedication to the ethos of freedom of expression. Its support and encouragement have not only strengthened our nation’s democracy but also positioned it as a model of a free press for many countries in Africa and beyond. Furthermore, Namibia reaffirms its pledge to protect media freedom as enshrined in the Constitution and renews its commitment to fostering a positive and enabling environment for freedom of expression and access to information,” said Roselia Penda, Acting Executive Director of MICT.
The award was received on behalf of the Government by Audrin Mathe, the Executive Director of the Ministry of Information and Communication Technology, during a ceremony on Saturday in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.
