Passionate youth Jeremia Amakali, who is also the founder of Yamakali Investment and Jerry Joinery Investment, says his two companies have now recruited seven permanent young employees and are looking to employ a minimum of 10 people by early next year.
He told The Namibian over the weekend that offering jobs to young people is not just about providing employment, but investing in their future and promoting self-reliance, while fostering innovation and building a more resilient and dynamic society.
“It’s an essential contribution to the growth and well-being of individuals and the broader community,” said Amakali.
He believes it is also important for young people to create jobs for future generations so as not only to benefit themselves, but also contribute to economic growth, social stability and the overall well-being of the nation.
“It is a crucial element in building a brighter future for both the youth and society as a whole,” Amakali said.
He narrated that the genesis of starting his two companies as a youngster was rooted in a deep passion for carpentry and cabinet making and his love for the construction industry.
“Several years ago, I was working in the construction and cabinetmaking industry and became increasingly aware of a significant gap in the market. I saw that the industry lacks innovation, and it was a challenge that this was not being adequately addressed. This sparked a desire to create a solution that would not only benefit my clients, but also transform the way the construction and cabinetmaking industries operate,” he said.
He envisioned a company that would be at the forefront of innovation, pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in these industries, he said.
“Our mission was clear from the outset: to create handcrafted, high-quality construction and carpentry products that exceed our customers’ expectations. We take pride in our commitment to craftsmanship and attention to detail and we were determined to pursue it relentlessly,” Amakali said.
He believes in the potential of young people and so, assembled a team of like-minded individuals who shared his vision and brought unique skills to the table. The company operates from the Windhoek branch and in the northern part of Namibia at Onayena.
Their current projects include renovating a few houses in Windhoek and subcontracting to install cupboards in 24 National Housing Enterprise houses.
“In the next few years, I envision myself continuing to grow and excel in my career while contributing to the success of this industry. My immediate goal is to grow and I’m excited to work towards achieving that.”
One of the employees of the company, Nangombe Mpolo, said the company’s commitment to work-life balance has had a huge impact on his happiness.
“I feel valued both as an employee and as an individual,” Mpolo said.
Another staff member, Naftal Nambahu, said the company’s dedication to diversity and inclusion is not just a policy; it’s a daily practice.
