THE Namibian Police have reported a record bust of 67 bullets of cocaine at Hosea Kutako International Airport in Windhoek on Saturday.
The police say an Angolan national was intercepted and searched at the airport while travelling from Ethiopia.
“He was coming from Ethiopia via Ethiopian Airlines and was found in possession of 67 bullets of cocaine hidden in his underwear and pants.
“He is 49 years old and will be appearing in court today [Monday],” national police spokesperson deputy commissioner Kauna Shikwambi says.
The man’s final destination was reportedly Windhoek.
This is the second cocaine bust in four days, Shikwambi says.
“The two detected incidents make it evident that there is a huge cocaine market in Namibia. As a society we need to join hands and deal with these Namibians and foreign criminals smuggling illicit substances through various entry points into our county. As a force we are indebted to those who continue to report such activities and any suspicions to the police.
“We need to find the intended owner and receiver of these illicit products which is destined for Namibia.
“We need public assistance with our investigations so that we can identify and point out these persons. We need to kill the market for drugs in our country,” she says.
