Charles Kandingua (13), a young entrepreneur from Rocky Crest in Windhoek is catching the attention of his community with his entrepreneurial spirit.

Kandingua is a Grade 7 pupil at Gammas Primary School.

He embarked on his journey as a young trader in September when his mother challenged him to make N$1 000 in 100 days.

Kandingua was determined to achieve this goal to buy himself a cellphone.

He was using his aunt’s phone at the time.

Collaborating with his uncle and aunt, they brainstormed business ideas.

His uncle suggested that he cleans dustbins, and Kandingua expanded on the idea to include yard cleaning and interlock brushing.

He set out to offer the community his services, but had limited time to spend on his business while balancing this with school.
As a result, Kandingua and his aunt are now collaborating on his venture over weekends.

His journey began with a simple investment in a broom for N$150 from his savings, and his dedication has paid off.

Kandigua says his business is thriving, and he has built a loyal customer base.

His advice to other young entrepreneurs is: “Try to find your passion and do something with your hands, even if it’s small, so you don’t have to rely on your parents for everything.”

Kandingua’s aunt and guardian, Vihanga Kamazembua, says she is proud of the business her nephew has started.

“I’m very excited about what he is doing, as it teaches him how to be financially responsible, and on how to spend your money wisely,” she says.

She says Kandingua’s work doesn’t only keep him busy, but also disciplined.
