FOUR tourists, three from America and one from the Netherlands, were robbed and assaulted at a hotel in Klein Windhoek this week.
According to Chief Inspector Elifas Kuwinga, the robbery happened on Thursday, 9 November 2023, at around 10:00 at a hotel in Klein Windhoek.
Kuwinga said that it is alleged that five suspects in the white Polo 6 vehicle entered the hotel premises through the gate as guests, and after a few seconds, the security guard got suspicious and went to where the suspects parked. Three suspects jumped out of the car with a knife and threatened the tourists, grabbing their bags and cellphones. It is further alleged that the suspects put one of the tourists in their car and drove off with him, but afterward, the tourist managed to escape and returned to the hotel.
The tourists robbed include a 63-year-old American male citizen and his 67-year-old wife, as well as a 63-year-old American male citizen and his 60-year-old wife, who is a Netherlands national. It is alleged that the suspects grabbed the backpack, which contained passports, a driver’s license, credit and debit cards, and cash of 2000.00 Rand, 150.00 Euros, 5000.00 USD, and two Samsung phones. Nothing has been recovered yet.
A 47-year-old Namibian male suspect who got left behind at the scene of the robbery by his gang was arrested and detained at the Windhoek Police station.
