TO alleviate the water supply challenges and meet demand, NamWater is working on various projects in the O-regions. This was revealed by Namwater Chief Strategy and Corporate Affairs Officer, Kadiva Hamutumwa, in a public notice issued on Friday.

According to Hamutumwa, in the Omusati Region, NamWater is developing a new treatment plant at Olushandja that will increase supply to the western and southern parts of Omusati. Design consultants have been appointed to date.

In Outapi, the development of a treatment plant project is heading to the construction stage. Hamutumwa said that they are also renovating the whole canal from Olushandja to Oshakati to increase capacity and improve the canal.

“Replacement of the Ogongo-Oshakati pipeline and pump station. The Pipeline replacement is going towards the construction stage,” said Hamutumwa.

Meanwhile, Hamutumwa indicated that in Oshana Region, the development of the new Oshakati Purification plant, which is the biggest and main project and will enable the Corporation to meet the deficit demand towards the rest of Oshana, Ohangwena, and Oshikoto regions, is progressing well.

Further, Hamutumwa said that they are to develop the Ohangwena Aquifer II, which will consist of the construction of reservoirs, a new pipeline in the areas of Omakango – Onambutu, and a new pump station at Ondobe, and the drilling of more boreholes.

NamWater is expected to do the replacement of the Ondangwa-Omutsegwonime pipeline and develop the Oshivelo to King Kauluma-Omutsegwonime pipeline.

Hamutumwa added that affected communities experiencing water supply interruption are encouraged to contact the water scheme office in their areas for water supply assistance by water tankers.
