RESIDENTS of the Eengodi constituency in the Oshikoto Region took to the streets, marching to the regional government headquarters in Omuthiya. There, they presented a petition calling for an immediate and lasting resolution to the critical water situation in their area.
The protesters, armed with posters and singing, were accompanied by the police as they walked to the regional council’s office complex. Their demand was clear: “We, the inhabitants of the Eengodi constituency, need clean water for everyday use; water that runs permanently.”
While water scarcity is a challenge in many remote areas of Oshikoto, the situation in the Eengodi constituency is reported to be the most severe. In the absence of Regional Governor Penda Ya Ndakolo and Regional Council Chairperson Samuel Shivute, the responsibility of receiving the petition fell to Vilho Nuunyango and Christella Mwenyo, the Oniipa constituency councilor and Chief Regional Officer, respectively.
