WHILE the interior parts of the country experienced widespread rain last week, this week is marked by a persistent heatwave affecting many interior areas.
According to the Namibia Meteorological Services, this heatwave is expected to persist in the interior, with the southern parts of the country bearing the brunt of it. The highest temperatures for Thursday are forecasted in the Hardap Region, where Mariental is expected to reach a maximum temperature of about 42°C.
The //Kharas Region will also face intense heat on Thursday as Keetmanshoop is projected to reach a maximum temperature of 40°C.
However, the South will likely not be the only region experiencing such high temperatures on Thursday. In the North-west, Kunene Region’s Sesfontein and Khorixas will likely also see maximum temperatures ranging between 40°C and 41°C on Thursday.
Several other northern areas, such as Eenhana, Ondangwa, and Oshakati, can also expect a particularly hot Thursday with temperatures reaching 40°C. Fortunately, the central-northern interior might experience some isolated showers on Thursday, with Ondangwa highlighted as one of the places likely to see rainfall.
The Coast can also expect warm to hot conditions on Thursday, although these temperatures will likely be lower compared to the interior areas. For instance, Erongo Region’s Swakopmund, Walvis Bay, and Henties Bay can expect maximum temperatures ranging between 27°C and 31°C, while Lüderitz in the //Kharas Region may reach a maximum temperature of 29°C on Thursday.
The Coast, which has seen less rainfall compared to the interior, will likely also experience a few isolated thundershowers on Thursday. This will be primarily focused on the central and northern coastal areas, according to Namibia Meteorological Services.
