Windhoek, Namibia – The Namibia Volleyball Federation (NVF) has announced that the NDF A (male) and NAVY (female) volleyball teams will be flying the Namibian flag high at this year’s Zone VI Club Championships in Maseru, Lesotho, scheduled from the 7th to the 17th of December 2023.

The two teams dedication and hard work have rightfully earned them the honor of representing Namibia at the Zone VI club championships, where they will be pitted against close to 20 teams from other countries. The Zone VI consists of Angola, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

“We would like to express our profound gratitude to the leadership of the Namibian Defense Force (NDF) for their unwavering support and commitment to the development of volleyball in Namibia. The generous provision of funds by the NDF will enable the NDF A and Namibian Navy teams to participate in this esteemed international competition, contributing significantly to the growth and promotion of volleyball within the country”, said NVF President Hillary Dux Imbuwa in a statement issued by NVF.

“The Zone VI Club Championships serve as a platform for teams from across the region to exhibit their prowess and compete at an elite level. This presents a significant opportunity for Namibia, whose last participation in the competition was in 2018 in Durban, South Africa,” stated Imbuwa.

Imbuwa emphasized that the NDF and Namibian Navy’s participation exemplifies the spirit of sportsmanship and the commitment to excellence that define the key objective of Namibian volleyball. However, he expressed disappointment that both the Khomas NamPol teams, champions in both categories, will not be traveling to Lesotho. “We have written a letter to the Inspector-General’s office, highlighting the momentousness of this event. We also followed up with another letter a week ago, but we never received any response until the closing date. It is not the first time that the Namibian Police Force has been crowned as the Namibian champion and failed to represent the country,” said Imbuwa.

The NVF wishes both teams the best of luck as they represent Namibia on the regional stage and encourages all supporters to rally behind these exceptional teams as they vie for victory in Maseru, Lesotho.
