OSHANA Governor Elia Irimari has urged Namibian men to steer clear of toxic norms and behaviours that put themselves and others at risk of contracting or transmitting HIV in their communities.
Irimari made this plea during the 3rd National Men’s Conference in Ondangwa on Friday, coinciding with World AIDS Day, commemorated each year on the 1st of December since 1988.
He emphasized the importance of ensuring that the conference acts as a catalyst for meaningful actions, fostering a culture of love, respect, and inclusion. Irimari urged men to play an active role in promoting gender equality and preventing suicide and gender-based violence.
This year’s World AIDS Day is held under the theme “Let Communities Lead.” It provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress made to date, raise awareness about the remaining challenges in achieving the goals of ending AIDS by 2030, and mobilize all stakeholders to redouble efforts for the success of the HIV response.
