Namibians should ensure corruption-free country — Geingob

President Hage Geingob has called for collective efforts to make Namibia corruption free.

He was speaking at an event observing International Anti-Corruption Day on Saturday.

According to the president, corruption undermines trust in institutions, hampers economic development, and poses a significant threat to democracy and the rule of law.

He said corruption affects the poor the most, and Namibians must ensure a corruption-free country.

“Indeed, at the national level, the establishment of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has been central to investigating and prosecuting corruption cases,” Geingob said.

The president said the ACC and its operational independence send a clear message that Namibians have zero tolerance for corrupt activities.

He said the ACC’s second National Anti-Corruption Strategy and Action Plan
for 2021 to 2025 represents a comprehensive blueprint for the nation’s continued efforts to combat corruption.

Geingob urged Namibians to reflect on their individual and collective roles in fostering a culture of integrity, transparency and accountability on International Anti-Corruption Day.

“May we all be inspired to unite against corruption, not just today, but every day,” he said.
