SPYL engages Rani Group of companies

In an effort to address concerns related to working conditions and the labour hire system, the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) has entered into discussions with the Rani Group of Companies.

This follows the suspension of several employees by the company in the wake of a protest.

Central to the dispute are alleged unjustifiable salary deductions by Employees Placement Services Namibia, a labour hire company contracted by the Rani Group.

While recognising the legal permissibility of such arrangements, the SPYL, in a media statement, condemned any practices resembling the contract labour system, labelling it a dark legacy of apartheid.

The SPYL expressed its commitment to advocating for amendments to the Labour Act to prevent the exploitation of workers through the use of labour hire companies, which is contradictory to the principles the party fought against during the liberation struggle.

The youth league emphasised the need to continue fostering a conducive environment for businesses and employees and discouraged any action that may compromise business productivity, economic stability, or the risk of job losses.

Furthermore, the SPYL calls upon all business owners in the country to respect the rights of their employees and adhere to the laws.
