AN Italian couple was allegedly robbed and assaulted while walking towards their hotel in Swakopmund on Monday.
Erongo Community Affairs Officer Inspector Ileni Shapumba said the incident occurred around 20:22.
Shapumba indicated that the couple was walking to their temporary accommodation. As they approached the hotel, a vehicle with three men came by. The assailants jumped out of the vehicle, pushed the victim’s 61-year-old wife, and took her small wallet with cash.
“They then allegedly forced the victim’s 56-year-old husband into their vehicle and drove off as the hotel guard ran towards them,” he said.
He added that it was further reported that a black Honda Fits with a fake registration number was seen dropping the victims in Mondesa.
“The husband sustained visible injuries on the forehead, left eye, and on his left arm, but he is stable. The wife did not sustain any injuries, while the wife sustained no injuries,” he added.
Shapumba said the unknown suspects stole N$800, 150 Euros, credit cards, identity cards, one Nikon camera, one Canon camera, two Samsung cellphones, one blue watch, one pair of spectacles, and a gold ring, all valued at N$95,280.11.
He added that no recovery of stolen items has been made yet.
