NAMIBIA will be participating at Investing in African Mining Indaba 2024, slated to take place from 5 to 8 February 2024 in Cape Town, South Africa.
As a premier mining jurisdiction, Namibia will be showcasing the opportunities it presents in the mining sector to a global audience of foremost thinkers in mining, and the leadership displayed in the journey towards being a world-class mining player.
Namibia is endowed with mineral resources such as diamonds, gold, copper, zinc, uranium, rare earth metals and industrial minerals essential for renewable energy. The diversity of such mineral resources, some of which are yet to be discovered, coupled with a conducive policy environment, make Namibia a top choice for mining investment. The Namibian mining sector plays a significant role in the economy, accounting for about 12.2% to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2022, or no less than 14.3 % when minerals processing and beneficiation are considered.
In celebrating 30 years ‘of Investing in African Mining Indaba, Namibia, under the theme “Namibia: Taking the bold steps to sustainable mining: shaping a green tomorrow”, will be promoting Namibia’s investment prospects in the mining sector and related industries through a series of Business-to-Business (B2B) and Business to Government (B2G) meetings as well as a country showcase panel discussion focusing on “Critical raw materials development and local value addition in the Namibian context”, to be held on Wednesday, 07 February 2024. The country showcase, as Namibia’s special feature at the Mining Indaba, will provide insights on Namibia’s intent to develop and implement the national mining and processing of critical raw materials.
The country showcase flagship event will also feature presentations by various national entities, including the Geological Survey of Namibia, Epangelo Mining, NamPower, Chamber of Mines and Namibia Investment Promotion and Development Board. The Namibian delegation to the Indaba will be led by Ms Gloria Simubali, Deputy Executive Director at the Ministry of Mines and Energy, on behalf of Hon. Tom Alweendo, Minister of Mines and Energy. The delegation further consists of government and public sector officials, the Namibian Chamber of Mines, representatives from mining houses and other private sector players.
“It is imperative that we create the understanding with our potential investment partners that Namibia‘s steadfast position on value addition to our minerals is crucial to the growth of the Namibian economy. In order to achieve a green tomorrow, we need to strengthen our commitment to sustainable mining practices, with the heightened global demand for critical minerals. The Mining Indaba will, therefore, give Namibia the opportunity to showcase its potential and meeting with other mining countries to take stock of the best regional and global practices”, said Tom Alweendo, Minister of Mines and Energy Namibia.
