Former Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Engel Nawatiseb, who was also a member of Swapo has officially joined the Landless People’s Movement (LPM).

This decision follows his call, nearly two years ago, for a new generation of leadership within the ruling Swapo party.

Nawatiseb emphasised the importance of youthful, capable leaders during his earlier statement.

Nawatiseb, a seasoned political figure who served as Deputy Minister, expressed his confidence in LPM’s potential to bring about robust and unique change in Namibia.

“The Former Deputy Minister of Information and Communication Technology has expressed that there is an importance in supporting a party that is led by the youth. He believes that robust and unique change in Namibia can only occur when we support capable, young and ambitious leaders and that the LPM possess those characteristics,” said LPM’s national spokesperson, Lifalaza Simaata.

He further said the party welcomes Nawatiseb and his family.

Moreover, LPM has decided to postpone its 5th anniversary celebration, originally scheduled for February 10, 2024.

This decision stems from the recent passing of former President Hage Geingob on Sunday, the first time Namibia has lost a sitting president.

Simaata said LPM deems it essential to prioritize respect and decency during this unprecedented period the nation is going through.

With this novel experience thrust upon us, we believe it is important that we as political leaders, make the best ethical decision possible and encourage our members to observe the mourning period and to pay the necessary respect and decency required,” he said.
