THE Prime Minister, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, has authorised all staff members, excluding those performing emergency and critical services, to work until 10:00 on Friday, 23 February 2024.
Dr. George Simataa, Secretary to the Cabinet, explained that this decision was made to allow public servants to participate in the Ceremonial Route Procession in honour of the late President Hage Geingob, taking place this Friday.
“I wish to inform you that a Ceremonial Route Procession, where the remains of the late President will be chauffeured within designated streets in the Capital City to allow the public to pay their respect to the 3rd President of the Republic of Namibia, is planned for Friday, 23 February 2024,”
Simataa also disclosed that the choice to shorten the workday on Friday was also made to provide an opportunity for those desiring to travel to Windhoek to attend the memorial and funeral services over the weekend.
“The remains of the late President will be interred at Heroes’ Acre on 25 February 2024. A Memorial Service would precede the burial on 24 February 2024 at the Independence Stadium,” he reminded.
Furthermore, Simataa revealed that President Nangolo Mbumba has conferred the status of National Hero on the late President Geingob.
