MORE than a month after the passing of the late President Hage G. Geingob, his life continues to be celebrated, with the nation of Botswana set to hold a memorial service in his honour this Wednesday.
“Following the passing of the third President of Namibia, His Excellency Dr. Hage G. Geingob, on February 4th, 2024, the nation of Botswana will, on March 13th, 2024, hold a memorial service in remembrance of a ‘true son of Africa, a true friend of Botswana’,” Botswana’s Ministry for State President announced.
The memorial service is scheduled to commence on Wednesday morning at 8:00 to 10:45.
This event symbolizes the longstanding friendship between Namibia and Botswana, as well as the close bond between President Mokgweetsi E.K. Masisi of Botswana and the late President Geingob. In fact, when he spoke at the late president’s funeral, President Masisi referred to former President Geingob not only as a friend but also as a “brother” and “confidant.” He also emphasized that the late president would always hold a special place in his heart and in the hearts of the people of Botswana.
