The Most Intelligent Species and Climate Change

The change in the earth’s climate does not happen in the blink of an eye; it involves a gradual shift in weather patterns, mostly caused by human activity.

Have you ever asked yourself what Mother Earth would look like without Homo sapiens? The planet would probably be healthy, with stable ecosystems.

This climate change dilemma exists because of our own ego, greediness and selfishness.

Interestingly, we refer to ourselves as the most intelligent species among all living species.

One would wonder how the most intelligent species turns out to be the creator of all major environmental problems.

If we are the most intelligent species on this planet, it is high time to revisit our everyday lifestyles.

Therefore, we need to develop environmental stewardship strategies at individual, community, national, regional and international level.

Additionally, setting up and implementing climate change mitigation measures is not a one-man show, it is our collective responsibility – regardless of our ethnicity, religion, social status, profession, or age.

We need to be mindful of what we do to our environment, because the steps we take today will reflect tomorrow.

The minor unsustainable choices we make in our everyday lives keep escalating and are becoming major contributing factors to climate change.

If we are worried about the change in climate, why don’t we walk instead of drive?

Why don’t we take reusable bags to shops, instead of plastic bags?

Why clear the whole forest if you are only going to use a small portion of that land?

Why are we deforesting more than reforesting?

And lastly, why do we not use biodegradable waste as compost to improve soil fertility, instead of burning?

These are some of the questions we need to ask ourselves if we are serious about mitigating the effects of climate change.

Why are we worried about climate change, but at the same time we do not change our habits?
