Africa Oil executive joins board of key partner in huge Namibia discovery

A top executive from Africa Oil has been appointed to the board of Impact Oil & Gas, the privately owned explorer which is a partner in TotalEnergies’ huge Venus discovery offshore Namibia.

The move came just a week after Toronto and Stockholm-listed Africa Oil announced a plan to boost its stake in Impact from 31.1% to almost 40% via a $64 million cash offer to minority shareholders.

Oliver Quinn, Africa Oil’s chief commercial officer, will replace his colleague Paul Martinez as a non-executive director.

Martinez, head of exploration at Africa Oil, steps down after three years on Impact’s board.

Quinn brings over 20 years’ experience in the energy industry from, among others, the senior leadership team of Kosmos Energy, focusing on M&A and strategy, and sitting on Ophir Energy’s investment committee.

Johnny Copelyn, Impact’s non-executive chairman, said: “We are pleased to welcome Oliver to the board of Impact and look forward to working with him in the company’s next chapter of growth.

“On behalf of the board and management, I would like to thank Paul for his contribution over the past three years and wish him the very best for the future”.

Copelyn is chief executive of Johannesburg-listed Hoskens Consolidated, the biggest shareholder in Impact.
