A new upscale restaurant recently opened in Levinson Arcade in the City Centre Building in Windhoek.
Kai Restaurant and Lounge offers various meals that are designed to cater for people from all different walks of life, says Eliz Nkole.
“We saw the need for affordable, tasty, well-prepared meals for the working class in the CBD. And at the same time realised that there is none currently available and people often must walk distances just to go look for something affordable that does not require them to wait long for it to be prepared.
“We cater for breakfast, including your traditional and modern, as well as the famous English breakfast. We also offer platters for corporate meetings. When you come to Kai Restaurant, you will not only enjoy your meals, but you will definitely sip on something in order to quench your thirst,” Nkole says.
Besides the full menu, Kai features a meal of the day that ranges from Western food to local and traditional cuisines, says Nkole.
“Our traditional food is served with a choice of either mielie pap, mahangu pap or cassava pap.”
She says the restaurant currently has two professional chefs and two cooks. All our chefs are professionally trained.
Besides food, the restaurant also offers entertainment, as well as a VIP lounge that can be booked for functions or private clients.
“We do not charge for the booking because we want our customers to tap into our menu and order food and beverages as much as they want without any financial limitation. During the weekend, our customers can look forward to entertainment because there is always a DJ. Entrance is free to the events and there are free shooters for our early birds.
“On Fridays, we cater for our young adults by hosting tailor-made events specifically designed for them like an all star or student games events,” says Nkole.
Although still new in the business, they are working hard to come up with new ideas to better the restaurant, says Nkole of plans to host a jazz night with a live band.
The restaurant stands out for its unique decor of high tufted couches, black and white scheme and paintings.
The family business is owned by the Omukwa Legacy Team and the restaurant is named after a family member.
“The name Kai is short for Kaino. Kaino, affectionately known as Mee Kai Kai, is the biological mother of the family. We thought of naming the restaurant Kai in honour of her hard work and business ethics,” Nkole says.
Providing affordable, well-cooked and delicious meals remains their core function, she says.
“As lovers of tasty food, we want to extend our taste to the rest of the people who are our customers. Those who visit us can come and experience our food that is fresh, tasty and well-prepared. The restaurant is located at a very safe location and there is 24/7 security for our customers’ convenience and safety,” says Nkole.
