Mines and Energy Minister, Tom Alweendo has shared key lesson from the recently held Nigerian Energy Summit in Abuja.
Nigeria, being the largest oil producer in Africa, Alweendo said that they took the opportunity to discuss their local content journey in the oil and gas sector, and thus Namibia learnt two important lessons.
Highlighting these lessons, Alweendo said: “There is a need for a Local Content Policy that is fit for purpose and arrived at in an inclusive and close collaboration with the business community. Currently, we have a drafted LCP that can be accessed on the Ministry’s website. We encourage all interested members of the public, especially business people, to look at the draft LCP and provide their input. Secondly, without local entrepreneurs who are curious, innovative, and willing to invest their time and energy in acquiring the necessary skills to succeed, it will be extremely challenging, and possibly even impossible, to embark on our local content journey. However, I was encouraged to note that we were joined by Namibian entrepreneurs curious enough to learn more about the oil and gas sector.”
