Amushelelo summoned by police

Social activist Michael Amushelelo says he has been summoned by the police after attempting to close Rani Supermarket in Windhoek on Tuesday afternoon.

Amushelelo confirmed to The Namibian that the police asked him to turn himself in.

Amushelelo posted a live video on social media of himself telling employees of the shop to shut the store.

He could be heard in the video telling employees that the shop cannot be allowed to operate in Namibia after 100 employees at the retailer’s Oshakati branch were suspended, having taken part in a strike against alleged bad working relations.

Wrote Amushelelo: “I have been called by the Namibian Police Wanaheda [Police] Station to hand myself over […] I am driving to hand myself over to the Namibian Police. My only request to the public is that failure by tomorrow 12h00 for the 100 plus workers who have been suspended to go back to work, the shutdown must proceed followed by a national boycott of all Rani Group shops.”
He continued: “The fight against injustice should and must always continue and we as the people should not be fearful.”
