REPRESENTATIVES of the Angolan authorities will this Saturday hold a follow up meeting with Namibian cattle farmers who are grazing their herds in the Oshimholo area of Angola and who are now facing an eviction.
The meeting will take place in the Olupale village, on the Angolan side of the border directly north of Okongo.
The Angolan government has recently held a series of meetings with the Namibian farmers who are estimated to have approximately 400 cattle posts and or “farms” in the Oshimholo and surrounding areas in the southern Cunene and Cuando Cubango provinces of Angola, but who are said to be there illegally.
Many of the Namibian farmers took their herds to the southern parts of Angola after they were ejected from the Kavango West 18 years ago.
The Angolan authorities said they tolerated the illegal entry of Namibian farmers due to solidarity and the fraternal bond between the two nations, but the situation has now gone out of control and can no longer be tolerated.
