Angolan “intelligence officers” arrested in Windhoek for kidnapping

Staff Reporter

SIX male suspects — two Namibians and four Angolans — were arrested in Windhoek on Saturday evening for kidnapping, assault by threat, common assault, and possession of an unlicensed firearm.

The six suspects, aged between 26 and 40, were traveling in two vehicles, a red BMW and a white Land Cruiser, when they were stopped at a mini roadblock on Moses Garoeb Street near the Otjomuise Police Station at around 21:00.

A woman in one of the vehicles screamed for help. She alleged that she had been abducted from Daan Viljoen Lodge, where she was attending her nephew’s wedding, and claimed to only know one of the six suspects.

According to the police, three of the suspects claimed to be Angolan police officers assigned to the intelligence department. They alleged that they were arresting the victim and one of the male suspects for stealing two vehicles in Angola.

The six arrested suspects were found in possession of two unlicensed firearms, and their two vehicles were impounded.
