THE Namibian police in the Omusati Region continue to warn parents, guardians, and members of the public in general to be extra cautious and to constantly keep an eye on children, not to leave them alone near water ponds to prevent loss of life.

This warning comes after another child, a 16-year-old boy named Kamati Paulus, allegedly drowned in a water pond at Okafitu kaShipopyeni village, Outapi Constituency.

Moses Simaho, the Namibian Police Force Omusati’s Crime Investigation Coordinator, said the incident occurred around 22:28 on Sunday.

“The deceased allegedly notified his siblings that he was going to take a bath at the water pond in the afternoon. However, the parents noticed that the deceased did not return home until the evening, prompting the family to search for him at the pond,” he said.

He added that they later found the deceased’s trousers, backpack, and sandals near the pond with visible footprints heading into the water, but he never returned.

Simaho indicated that they searched in the water pond until they discovered the body and removed it from the water.

No foul play is suspected. However, Simaho said the body is kept at Outapi State Hospital Mortuary to be transported to Okahao Police mortuary for post-mortem results.

Police investigation into the matter continues.
