The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology (MICT), in partnership with the Internet Society of Namibia and UNESCO, convened a significant consultative meeting to discuss the Namibia National Internet Universality Indicators.
This gathering, held at a pivotal moment, aimed to shape policy recommendations and implement practical initiatives that will fortify Namibia’s Internet ecosystem as advanced Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) continue to evolve.
According to the Ministry, the Internet Universality Indicators framework, developed over a three-year period through a global, open, inclusive, and multi-stakeholder process, serves as a valuable instrument to comprehensively evaluate a nation’s internet landscape. By leveraging this framework, experts and stakeholders can proactively identify challenges and seize opportunities in the digital sphere.
Dr. Audrin Mathe, the Executive Director of MICT, delivered the opening remarks during this important meeting. He emphasized the critical role this assessment will play in providing the government and stakeholders with evidence-based insights to formulate effective policies.
‘By evaluating Namibia’s Internet environment against the ROAM-X indicators, we are confident that this process will present a comprehensive and substantive understanding of the national Internet environment and policies,’ he added.
Namibia’s pursuit of enhancing its Internet ecosystem aligns with global trends, recognizing the paramount importance of digital connectivity in the modern world. This collaborative effort between the government, the Internet Society of Namibia, and UNESCO underscores Namibia’s commitment to ensuring a robust, inclusive, and forward-looking digital future.
The discussions are expected to result in a set of concrete policy recommendations and strategic initiatives that will not only foster a thriving Internet landscape but also ensure that Namibia remains competitive on the global digital stage.
