The Karasburg West Constituency Office has provided temporary accommodation to 57 households whose reed houses were destroyed by fire at Aussenkehr farms early Tuesday morning.
The fire also claimed the life of 27-year-old Willem Shiyoleni.
Karasburg West Constituency Councillor Taimi Amakali confided that the displaced fire victims will be housed in temporary shelters.
She said some grape companies have donated building materials to the affected households to rebuild with corrugated iron and zinc.
The houses, she added, will be constructed in the recently proclaimed area of Aussenkehr to decongest the location where the victims were living and reduce the reed house fires.
Food hampers were also given to the affected fire victims.
According to the police crime bulletin, the fire broke out in the reed house of Shiyoleni, who was burned beyond recognition.
The fire then spread to the other reed houses; all of them were completely destroyed by the fire the community managed to put out.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
