POLICE in the Oshikoto Region are investigating a case of concealment of birth after a 34-year-old woman was found with a newborn baby boy hidden under the bed.
Oshikoto Regional Commander Commissioner Teopolina Kalompo-Nashikaku said the incident occurred at a local bar.
According to Kalompo-Nashikak, the suspect gave birth to a baby boy in her sleeping room, which is adjacent to the shebeen.
She indicated that the suspect entered her sleeping room, located in the same area as the shebeen while taking a break from serving customers. After a while, a customer who needed assistance went to look for her in the sleeping room.
“The customer found her lying on the bed with blood stains all over the room. The customer saw a newborn baby hidden under the bed in a basin,” she said.
She added that the customer then alerted others and notified the police.
The suspect was reportedly taken to Omuthiya State Hospital, where she was admitted for further observation.
The newborn baby was found dead, and the body was taken to the Omuthiya police mortuary for an autopsy to be conducted.
Kalompo-Nashikaku indicated that the suspect has been arrested.
