The 2024 RMB Off-Road Triathlon took place on Sunday at Lake Oanob, leaving participants and spectators alike exhilarated.
This is the 17th year that OTB Sport has hosted the Off-Road triathlon.
Participants could compete as individuals or in teams and could choose between the Enduro (1,1km swim, 28km bike, 8km run), Sprint (600m swim,15km bike, 4km run) and the Super Sprint (300m swim, 4km bike,2km run) events.
The Enduro Male event was won by Andrew Rowles in 2:12:54. Overall second and winner of the Elite age category was Jan-Louis Mostert in 2:14:33, while John Valentin came third overall and second in the Veteran age category in 2:18:56. Lelani Swart won the Enduro Female category.
The Sprint distance was won by the favorite, Nathan Chase, in 58:53. Chase is in top form, and recently won the bronze medal in the men’s 16-17 age group at the Xterra Youth World Championship held in northern Italy. Second overall was Nathan’s younger brother, Micah Chase in 1:04:34, while Ethan Brinkmann came third overall in 1:08:02.
Sonja Obholzer won the Female Sprint category in 1:21:06, while she was also the winner of the Female Veteran category. Lillian Kibble came second overall in 1:28:01, while she was also the winner of the 16 and under female age category. Lara Voss came third overall in 1:28:45, while she was also the winner of the Elite age category.
The Veteran Male Sprint category was won by Thilo Thum in 1:18:44, while the Master Female and Male categories were won by Nicole Botha and Bernd Esslinger respectively.
The overall winner of the Super Sprint was Emma Brinkmann in 37:53. Aiden Dieh was the overall winner of the Male Super Sprint category in 39:18.
OTB Sport said they were very pleased with the turnout especially in the number of youngsters taking part. OTB thanked RMB for its generous and invaluable support of triathlon in Namibia, and for the sponsorship of the RMB Off Road Triathlon specifically, which it has sponsored for the past five years.
