A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD girl has died after she was allegedly bitten by a black mamba in Oshikoto’s Nehale Lyampingana Constituency on Sunday.
The deceased has been identified as Ndapewaehafo Nainyangele Phillipus.
Oshikoto Community Policing Sub-division Chief Inspector Ellen Nehale-Kangulu said the incident occurred around 11:00 at Ohamandjanga village.
According to Nehale-Kangulu, the deceased was with her two younger siblings in the Omahangu field, taking care of crops, when they started playing near an ant hill with holes at the time of the incident.
“It is alleged that the deceased inserted a stick into an ant hill hole, prompting a black mamba snake, which was allegedly inside, to come out and bite her on the arm before retreating back into the hole,” she said.
She added that shortly after the incident, the deceased returned to the house and was found unconscious in the sleeping room by her stepfather.
Nehale-Kangulu further indicated that the stepfather asked the victim’s younger sister what had happened, and she narrated that the deceased was bitten by a black snake.
“The stepfather rushed to a neighbouring house to seek assistance, and upon returning home, he found the lifeless body of the deceased lying on the ground,” she added.
The deceased’s body was transported to the Omuthiya police mortuary for a post-mortem examination to be conducted.
