CABINET has approved a one-off Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for hake, set at 140,000 metric tonnes for the 2024-2025 fishing season.
This was announced by Minister of Information and Communication Technology Emma Theofelus during the recent briefing of Cabinet decisions. She explained that the one-off TAC for hake, set at 140,000 metric tonnes, will commence on 1 November 2024 and conclude on 30 September 2025.
Additionally, she said that Cabinet has directed the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources to consider gradually reducing the TAC in future years to align with scientific recommendations.
