South Africa’s National Taxi Council and transport authorities were in for a long night. They tried to get taxis back on the road for today’s commute in Cape Town after a week-long stayaway over impounding by the City of Cape Town. Reuters reports that Santaco Western Cape chair Mandla Hermanus said they wanted assurances that there would not be mass impounding if they returned while the mayor of Cape Town has said that only those violating the law are at risk of this.
